Leading Ladies Inspire During Chicago Event
“There’s a special place in heaven for women who help other women,” began Cherri Prince, twisting the familiar phrase on its head in a way that would define the night in Chicago.
Prince was among four other Seed Strategy women who facilitated the Leading Ladies happy hour last Thursday in Chicago. The dynamic networking and mentoring event was specially tailored for women in the marketing and advertising industries, with the aim to connect those from all parts of their career journeys to share experiences, advice and support.
Nearly 30 women from several Fortune 100 companies and global advertising agencies attended this inaugural event.
“It was inspiring to see these women––many of them strangers before the event––come together for an evening of discussion, storytelling and empowerment,” said Lauren Selman, another of the event’s coordinators.
The event began with casual mingling before women from Seed Strategy, the innovation and brand strategy firm heading the event, shared a brief presentation with insights they’ve gleaned over 15 years of developing new products and brands for women. Heads nodded along in the audience—as well as laughs, during an enlightening clip from the television show “Friends.”
Next, the group broke into small groups where they would spend the rest of the evening participating in Quick Connects—a speed-mentoring activity created by Seed to spark thought-provoking conversations, ranging from career-focused advice to guilty pleasure confessions.
“Hosting Leading Ladies was an act of gratitude for me,” said Prince. “Like most women in marketing and advertising, I’ve had my triumphs and disappointments. But my golden thread of support has always been the women I’ve worked with and for. We wanted to create a space and time for women to share their stories. And share they did. The overall atmosphere of the night was a comforting feeling of ‘I’m not alone.’”
The event was a huge success and the Seed team is already beginning to plan the next one, possibly expanding to other cities.
If there truly is a special place in heaven for women who help other women, then after this event, they’d better clear plenty of space.
